1. Fidget To Keep Weight Off

There is this fascinating study done on people who fidget. . . bouncing their knees up and down, wiggling, or constantly repositioning themselves. These fidgeters didn’t gain weight, even after overeating every day for 2 months (study here). It said that their body recognized that they ate too many calories, and had them fidget the extra away to maintain weight at their normal level.

There is no reason why we can’t conscientiously do the same thing. so after a big meal, tap that leg on the ground. You can start now while you read the rest of this article!

Along these same lines, go ahead and pace! Chat with your family and friends while walking around. I do this when I’m on the phone, and the movement really adds up!

Immediate Action: bounce your legs.

2. Drink Water

Water helps you burn more calories. One glass of water will boost your burning capabilities for up to an hour. So if you drink one glass of water every hour, you can burn those extra holiday calories easy! (study here)

Also, water helps you feel full and it helps flush unneeded things out of your body.

Water is essential for weight loss because it helps to control hunger and cravings. When you’re dehydrated, your body mistakes thirst for hunger, so you end up eating more than you need. Drinking water regularly can help to keep you hydrated and reduce the likelihood of snacking throughout the day.

Immediate Action: So get up, and grab an extra glass of water right now.

3. Sleep

Did you know that getting enough sleep is essential for weight loss?

I have experienced this firsthand. In the early hours of the morning, I will step on the scale. Then I go back to bed. A couple of hours later, I will wake up and go step on the scale again. And it’s down a couple of pounds!

Our body actually burns extra calories during the REM cycle.

When you’re tired, your body produces more of the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol signals the body to store fat, especially around the midsection. In addition, lack of sleep can lead to cravings for unhealthy foods. So if you want to lose weight, make sure you get enough shut-eye every night.

Immediate Action: So go take a nap.

4. Take 5 Minutes And Do An H.I.I.T Workout

High-intensity interval training, or H.I.I.T., is a great way to lose weight and keep it off.

This is another activity that keeps going long after you’ve finished it. This will immediately boost your metabolism and will keep it higher for up to 48 hours afterward. Let those 5 minutes really work for you!

(Check out these quick win workouts right now)

This type of exercise involves alternating short periods of high-intensity exercise with short periods of rest or low-intensity activity. Not only does this type of training help you burn more calories in less time, but it also helps to boost your metabolism, which makes it easier to lose weight and keep it off in the long run.

5. Take A Hot Bath For Weight Maintenance.

Research has shown that taking an hour-long hot bath can burn more calories than a 30-minute walk. It can also boost metabolism and reduce inflammation!

Taking a hot bath or dry brushing before bedtime can be incredibly beneficial for weight loss. The warm temperature of the water helps to relax your body and calm your mind, allowing you to drift off into a deeper state of rest. This will also reduce stress hormones which can lead to cravings.

Immediate Action: Take a hot bath.

6. Dry Brush

Dry brushing is a technique that involves brushing your skin with a dry brush before taking a hot bath or shower. This helps to remove dead skin cells, stimulate the lymphatic system, and improve circulation. All of these effects help to promote weight loss by detoxifying the body and burning calories. (find out more here)

Immediate Action: Dry Brush your body. (or buy it now)

7. Drink A Shot Of Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a popular natural remedy for a variety of health problems.

It has been shown to be beneficial for weight loss, among other things.

It can help to reduce appetite, increase metabolism, and regulate blood sugar levels. Additionally, it is rich in acetic acid which helps to break down fat cells. (Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar)

Immediate Action: The best way to use it is to take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, dilute it in a glass of water, and chug it down either morning and night, or right after meals. (Or buy it now)

8. Take A Turmeric Capsule

Turmeric is a spice that is used for its anti-inflammatory properties.

More recently, it has been studied for its potential to help with weight loss.

Turmeric contains curcumin, which has been shown to help reduce inflammation and promote weight loss. Curcumin also helps to boost metabolism and burn fat. So if you’re looking for a natural way to maintain weight, consider adding turmeric to your diet. (read full fat loss review of Turmeric here)

Immediate Action: Take one Turmeric Pill. (Or buy it now)

9. Eat A Few Bites Of Chia Pudding

Chia seeds are a great way to start your day if you’re looking to lose weight. (check out losing weight on Chia Seeds)

There are some studies that believe that chia seeds will attach and absorb other foods as they go through the digestive system. The best way to use them would be to make a chia seed pudding (like this awesome Holiday peppermint pudding), and eat a few bites with each meal.

They are high in fiber, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids, which all help to promote weight loss.

In addition, chia seeds help to stabilize blood sugar levels throughout the day, preventing cravings for unhealthy snacks. So if you’re looking for a healthy and nutritious way to maintain weight, consider adding chia seeds to your breakfast routine.

Immediate Action: (Make chia pudding) Eat 3 spoonfuls of chia seed pudding. (Or buy the seeds now)

10. EFT Tapping

Tapping, or EFT, is a technique that has been shown to be effective for weight loss or to maintain weight.

EFT involves tapping certain points on your body while focusing on negative emotions or thoughts. This helps to release the negative energy and clear your mind.

When you’re clearheaded and stress-free, it’s easier to make healthy decisions about food and exercise. So if you’re looking for a way to lose weight that doesn’t involve deprivation or extreme measures, consider trying tapping.

This takes maybe 5 minutes if you are following along on a video, or 20 seconds if you know what you are doing.

11. Eat Probiotics

Probiotics help with the digestive system and can keep your gut moving. This is incredibly important during the Holidays when we overeat and can get sluggish around our stomach area.

There are a few ways to take a probiotic. I like grabbing some yogurt, or probiotic drink (like this one) at the store.

But I also keep these shelf-stable supplements on hand, and they work really well (MultiZyme)

Immediate Action: take some probiotics. (Or buy it now)

12. Up Your Magnesium

Did you know that magnesium is essential for weight loss?

Your body uses magnesium to regulate your stress hormones. Stress can cause your body to hold on to weight. Holidays are stressful. Therefore, you need magnesium to reduce weight gain during the Christmas season.

And on top of this, your body will also only absorb as much magnesium as they need for the day. If you take too much, it will help move your bowels. . . A clean gut is a happy and flat gut.

Magnesium can help to reduce appetite, increase metabolism, and regulate blood sugar levels. Additionally, it is rich in acetic acid which helps to break down fat cells. So if you’re looking for a natural way to lose weight, consider adding magnesium to your diet.

Immediate Action: You can take a supplement (this is the one I use) and/or you can add it to your hot bath and let it be absorbed in through your skin. So you can get a two-for-one benefit of weight loss if you bathe! (Or buy the pill now) (Or buy bath now)

13. Do 5 Minutes Of Yoga.

Yoga is well-known for its weight loss benefits. But the problem is that true yoga takes SO LONG, and it can be SO BORING!

But you can actually do just a mini session, and still get enough benefits to maintain weight loss with only 5 minutes.

Yoga helps to reduce stress levels, which can lead to overeating and emotional eating. Additionally, yoga helps to tone the body and improve flexibility. So if you’re looking for a way to lose weight that is gentle and sustainable, consider adding yoga to your routine.

Doing 5 minutes of yoga every day can help to keep your body and mind healthy.

14. Breathe Deep

Did you know that deep breathing can help you lose, or at least maintain, weight?

Breathing deeply helps to release fat cells and promote weight loss.

I read this fun little book years ago called ‘Oxycise‘ about how breathing deeply activates and releases fat cells. It can be done anywhere, at any time.

When you’re stressed, your body produces cortisol, which is a hormone that promotes the storage of belly fat.

But when you practice deep breathing, it helps to lower cortisol levels and reduce stress.

This in turn encourages the body to burn stored fat for energy. So if you’re looking for a way to lose weight that is gentle and sustainable, consider adding deep breathing to your routine.

Immediate Action: Practice breathing completely out, then completely in. Long deep breaths (this video can help explain)

15. Chew Longer

Ok, so this can help you with your weight loss, but not for the reason you think.

I’m sure when you read ‘chew longer’ you thought. “Oh, just another trick to eat less”. And yes, it’s true that if you chew longer and slower, then you may end up eating less because your body will have time to send out the signal that your stomach is happily full. . . But that is not the main reason you should spend more time chewing your food.

Your mouth is the first step in the digestive system. Your saliva is supposed to surround the food and already begin to break it down into digestible and absorbable fragments before hitting the stomach. But we tend to chew and swallow rather quickly, depriving our body of those critical few moments of digestion. (study)

But if we let the saliva start doing its magic first, it means less bloating, fewer stomach issues, and better overall health.

Immediate Action: Eat something slowly. Let the saliva surround your food.

Bonus Tip Intermittent Fasting To Help Maintain Weight Loss

Ok, intermittent fasting is not a quick win, and could also be considered a diet. So it does not quite fit the criteria for this list.

But I am a big fan of autophagy (it is a Nobel Prize-winning discovery), and it can help for the in-between days when there is not a specific Holiday treat tempting you.

Intermittent fasting is a technique that has been shown to be effective for weight loss.

It involves going for periods of time without eating, which helps to reduce overall calorie intake and promote weight loss.

There are a variety of different intermittent fasting methods, all of which have been shown to be effective.

So if you’re looking for a way to lose weight that doesn’t involve deprivation or extreme measures, consider trying intermittent fasting.

Immediate Action: Read this article on autophagy.
