Will 16/8 Intermittent Fasting work for you?

Intermittent Fasting has become a big name in the dieting world. It goes hand in hand with the famous Keto Diet.

We at Tryitdietsisters decided to try it out. I have had a lot of success with a much stricter Intermittent Fasting routine many years ago, (My OMAD Experience) and if you want more information about how to go about following the OMAD, then check out my tips and tricks.

Intermittent Fasting has been found to help heal our bodies at a cellular level, through a process called AUTOPHAGY. (If you’d like to know more about autophagy, click here)

So we were excited to see what Intermittent Fasting could do for our weight loss goals.

So we now opened it up to the rest of the fam to see what the results were.
*

We gave it 2 weeks.

The rules were quite simple:

Follow the 16/8 rule. (fast for 16 consecutive hours, then have an 8 hour window where you eat your meals for the day)

You must follow it 4-6 days a week.

There have been multiple studies done with women who do intermittent fasting, and it was found that it was more sustainable when we don’t fast consistently.

If we are consistent, our body shifts gears and changes the metabolism state to match the new diet, and our weight-loss plateaus.

This Blogger explains it really well: https://www.fitwithrachel.com/ultimate-guide-intermittent-fasting-women/?et_fb=1

Also check out what breaks a fast.

So we left it up to the individual how exactly they wanted to follow Intermittent Fasting.

I’m going to tell you right now, that Intermittent Fasting can help! If you are worried about just jumping right in, you should grab this 2 week Intermittent Fasting tracker below. Well worth it!

NOTE: If you’d like to take a two-week Intermittent Fasting Challenge, I highly recommend this INTERMITTENT FASTING TRACKING LOG PRINTABLE. It has everything you need to start intermittent fasting. After buying, all you need to do is print off the papers. If you are not a “printing person”. . .There is a 1-hour intermittent fasting tracker, and 16/8 Intermittent fasting tracker on amazon for a really decent price!

Well, a minor disaster happened to one of my sisters shortly into the challenge. She was really happy and excited one night, and she had a bit of a ‘bounce’ in her step, and one of those steps broke her leg – in two places. one of which was crushed!

It was a pretty traumatic experience, and you can read about what happened here. Watch your Step: How being overweight broke my leg

We had 8 women start Intermittent fasting.

2 stopped immediately due to blood sugar. (But we have since found some drinks that could keep blood sugar levels stable even during fasting – Check it out)

1 stopped because of a broken leg (or at least dropped out of tracking her weight) Her story here: http://www.tryitdietsisters.com/weight-broke-my-leg/

4 saw a minor dip of a couple of pounds the first week, but it went back up the second week.

BUT!!!!!

There was One Star of the SHOW!!!!!

Randee (get to know her here) Lost 12 pounds in the first 2 weeks! and it was so easy and effortless for her!

Here is her review:

16/8 Intermittent fasting. Just the sound of it sounds daunting and hunger inducing. However, I thought “I can do it for 2 weeks.” So I tried it.

The goal: eat 8 hours out of the day and fast 16 hours at least 4 days a week. Hence 16/8.

The first few days I really missed eating my late night snacks. Especially my bowl of ice cream after the kids are in bed. There is just something so satisfying about a treat when there are no kids around.

I also felt a little weak in the mornings and thought i might not be able to finish the challenge.

Well I decided I would try and tough it out.

After the first week my weight was down a few pounds but nothing crazy. I wasn’t weak anymore and I was even not missing my late night snacks. I think the late night snacks contribute both to my weight gain and my stomach being mad most mornings.

The second week flew by so fast I didn’t even know it was over. I did my weigh in and found I had dropped 10 lbs total doing the 16/8 diet!

I was so excited. This is something that takes little effort, I felt alright, and I was losing weight. So I decided I could keep going.

I am not sure I did it 4 days the 3rd week, but I was still able to shed 2 more lbs. I really liked this diet and I will be continuing it for a while.

The best part was, since you don’t do it every day, I was able to have a night when I really wanted a treat and that was OK. I could just decide “today won’t be a fasting day”.

It gives you such freedom. Especially when there are date nights and special occasions.

I have been completely sporadic with my days, there is no rhyme or reason for the days that I choose to intermittent fast.

Some days i’m like “i’m going to eat a snack tonight” and other days i’m like “nope, i’m sticking to it” so the body just never knows when it will happen.

I love the 16/8 intermittent fasting diet, and I will keep doing it. It has become a habit for me. and I just stop eating after dinner.

I’m down 12 1/2 lbs after 3 weeks.

Conclusion

This is what ‘tryitdietsisters’ is all about. Not every diet works for every person, but we believe that there is something that will work for every individual, it just may take a few failed diets to find the best one suited for that one person.

I want to leave my comment for those who can identify with the following: Have tried any kind of program, WW, the soup dieta, pills, exercise and nothing had worked, but recently came across DR Jason Fung the Obesity Code and intermittent fasting and wow it change my life 4 months and now practicing 20: 4 never thought I was able to do it, but here I am 50 lbs lighter and had changed my life, no food restrictions in the sense that I can eat a piece of cake or an ice cream. I love bread and had never stopped eating it but, is not really what you eat is when you eat and how much you eat. So yes I am a true believer that works wonders, yes you need to be active, yea I walk every day but is not crazy hours in the gym, because no gyms though covid just routines that will fit my calendar and my schedule. So for those struggling have a thought into this, no gimmicks, no special pills just you, regular food and the time you eat and the time you don’t. Lots of water, tea or coffee that is all you need.

@Maria Cadena, YES! My husband found Dr Jason Fung on YouTube Dec 2021 - after years of not being able to lose weight I'm now down 80+ pounds, he's down 50 pounds. No gimmicks, nothing to buy. I eat the foods I love (even junk food if I want) and eat mostly OMAD now, but started slowly with 16:8.

Hi Randee, While on intermittent fasting, did you also do some exercises? And what foods do you follow to eat on an 8 hours window?

Thanks,

Hey Shirl, Honestly, no I don't really exercise, and I follow no eating rules. I was literally eating sweets and junk food and lost weight because of Intermittent Fasting. How awesome is that?!

Did you follow any kind of diet or was it just the fasting that took off the pounds? I’m on keto and thinking about fasting while doing keto will help me lose more weight?

Intermittent Fasting can work even while not doing a specific diet. Most of the ladies who tried were not on a diet. I have done Intermittent Fasting while on the keto diet, and it worked well for me!

Intermittent fasting really helps me, I have done this method for two weeks, weight loss may not yet be felt but I feel a change in myself which is, if I try to eat oily food, I will immediately feel nauseous or even eat food that is not healthy, and I feel full just by eating a little and not feeling hungry at all
