Keto Chow is a Meal Replacement Shake that has been taking the ketogenic world by storm. But how effective is it in helping to lose weight? I drank only keto chow for 7 days, and here are my results:
I will start off by explaining my weight loss experience for this week, then I will go on to my full Keto Chow review of the actual products. So just scroll down to keep reading!
I have been a fan of low carb/keto for the past 5 years. It helped me slim up after my 3rd child. . . and after my 4th child. . . and now I am working on losing the baby weight for my 5th child.
It is hard starting all over again. I learned some valuable lessons while doing keto, like staying away from inflammatory foods, such as sugar, and how to appreciate protein. . .and although my pregnancy diet wasn’t perfectly keto, it was pretty close! I filled my plate with only nutritious foods, and stayed away from high sugar, low nutrition. . . But in the end, I still gained close to 70 pounds!
I had a healthy, hearty 9 1/2 pound baby, and lost 30 pounds right off the bat.
But now I need to get the weight down slowly and steadily, so that I won’t tank my milk supply.
I am using this simple sheet (you can get it for $1.50 on Etsy with the code WEIGHTLOSS) to track my long term progress and hopefully stay on target. My goal is to lose 2 pounds a week until I’m down 50 pounds.
Everyone’s weight fluctuates a bit every day. So the goal was for me to hit my number at least one time during the week, and not to freak out too much if it went higher a little later.
So far so good!
. . .And then came the 3 days of Halloween candy binge eating.
And out of nowhere, I gained 10 pounds!
Here is the sheet, you can see the yellow highlighted portion is Halloween. And the Green portion is the week of keto chow.
The very next day, I decided to do the keto chow shake challenge. Which is to only eat keto chow for a certain amount of time. . . Usually 30 days, but I only had enough to do it for one, maybe two weeks. So I committed to one week. And I am so glad I did!
My Keto Keto Chow Review: Eating Keto Chow Helped Me Lose 9 Pounds Of Inflammation And Fat!
Ok, so first, I need to acknowledge that the weight I lost during this week wasn’t fat loss.
Like I showed you, I gained that weight quickly because of all the inflammatory sugar and carbs that I ate. I did not eat 9 pounds worth of calories in 3 days (at least I hope not).
But for me, inflammation weight is the worst kind, because I feel sluggish, gross, and pudgy. Then after a few days of staying away from those toxic foods, my face, fingers, feet, and whole body slim up and start to feel great!
Then, as soon as the inflammation goes away, everything I lose after that, truly is fat loss. Which I am so happy about!
Notice I use the word HAPPY A lot.
I use happy to describe being on the keto diet, because it literally boosts my mood. Crazy as it may sound, I adore how happy I feel emotionally when I don’t have inflammation in my body (check out more benefits I noticed here).
So overall. I am happy with my 7 Day Keto Chow Challenge. 9 pounds of inflammation and fat gone!
KetoChow Review
Now onto my thoughts on my Keto Chow Review specifically.
I heard about Keto Chow from my mom.
My mom has been battling borderline diabetes for the past couple of years, and when she can stay healthy and control her weight, she stays prediabetic. But when she’s sick or gains a little too much weight, she has to take insulin.
She found Keto Chow, and she loved it! And when my mom loves something, she goes all in! She bought quite a few individual packets so she could find out what her favorites are, and then went and bought a bunch of the bulk bags of those flavors.
But as much as she liked Keto Chow, her Doctor had suggested a dairy-free diet (because of a different health issue not involving diabetes). So she offered to give me all of her extra Keto Chow.
Absolutely!
I brought home all of the individual packets, and a bulk bag of Chocolate Peanut Butter, Raspberry Cream Cheese, Root beer, Orange Creamsicle, and EggNog (all but the chocolate peanut butter were opened and mostly used up).
I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t a fan of the raspberry cream cheese, root beer, or eggnog. But I was happy about the orange creamsicle and chocolate peanut butter.
Along with those, I really loved the Banana Pudding, pistachio and chocolate caramel toffee.
What Fats To Eat With Keto Chow
The top choices are:
- Butter
- Coconut Oil
- Heavy Whipping Cream
- Olive Oil
- Avocado Oil
- Bonus: Avocadoes
- Bonus: Powdered Butter
- Bonus: Powdered protein peanut Butter
- Bonus: Chia Seeds
I put a bunch of ‘bonuses’ on the list, because they aren’t the original fats, but people have used them in shakes and smoothies with keto chow and it has worked.
I have personally tried 3 types of fat with my shakes: Melted butter, heavy whipping cream, and avocado oil. The butter solidified when it cooled down for me, and there were chunks in the shake. Heavy whipping cream muted the flavors, and could go bad really quickly. Avocado oil is virtually tasteless, and keeps the shakes a smooth texture – I am a big fan of avocado oil.
Yes, you should add fat to the shakes
KetoChow has all your daily vitamins (if you eat three of them per day). But some vitamins are fat-soluble, which means they need to be eaten with fats in order for your body to absorb them.
How To Mix Keto Chow
There are a lot of fancy ways to make it. My goal in life is to buy a Ninja Creami, which can turn these shakes into ice cream! But till then, this is how I make my shakes:
I’m the type of person who can only do things consistently if it is easy to do.
My way takes about 1 minute to prep per shake.
- get about 12 oz of warm or hot water (I turn on the faucet till it gets really hot)
- put 1-2 tablespoons (I just fill up the cap twice) of Avocado oil in the cup
- Put the shake mix in.
- (optional) put 1 tsp of protein powder in.
- Using a fork, I mix it all together, then I keep the fork in the shake, close with a lid, and put it in the fridge. After a few hours (or overnight) I take it out, mix it again with the fork, put the fork in the sink, and drink up!
Is Keto Chow Worth The Price?
Keto Chow is about $5 per shake mix, plus less than a dollar for the fats. If you add the extra protein that some people like, it would add an extra dollar per serving.
So you can be spending $15-$20 a day for 3 meals. For some people, especially those who work and eat out every day, that fits right into their budget. But for a stay-at-home mom like me. . . That is a little high.
I’m trying to figure out what part of my family grocery budget I spend specifically on me, and if I can divert some of that money for keto chow.
Benefits of Keto Chow Review
I would want to continue Keto Chow, if I could justify the price, because ready-made meals will make it less likely that I will cheat because of hunger or boredom. And since it is a pre-determined serving, it will also keep me from accidently overeating on carbs or on calories!
And now that I took the 7 day challenge, I know I could live off of these without feeling hungry, and that it would help me lose weight.
Many people take 2 shakes a day, and then one low carb dinner. I may try this and see if I can still see results by doing this.
I will also be trying other keto shakes to see if I can find one cheaper that I can live with.
