Try It Diet: the 3 day military Diet.
Note: This Meal Plan is what I ate, NOT THE ORIGINAL Military Diet.
Day 1
1/2 Grapefruit
2 Tablespoons of Peanut Butter on Toast.
1/2 C. Chicken on Toast
3 Oz. Chicken with Green Beans
1 C. Vanilla Ice-Cream with 1 Apple and 1/2 Banana.
I started the day with a bit of hesitation. . . Okay it was a lot. This was the first real “cutting out” diet I had tried since I was a teenager. Those never went well for me. I had the breakfast, no problem. . . Well I actually have never liked grapefruit, but I ate it, and I discovered that if you eat it fast enough the bitterness only comes at the end. I then ate the peanut butter on bread, which got a bit sticky, but I like peanut butter so that was all good!
By the time lunch came around I was having a harder time. I have low blood sugar, so if there is too long between eatings I get shaky and not feeling well. A problem is I go into work at noon, and I am there till 6:00, I will eat a meal at about 11:30 and then another at about 3:00. With this it only allowed 1 lunch, so I pushed it off for as long as I could. It caused problems. I developed a headache that wouldn’t go away, I started shaking pretty badly, I had no desire to do anything (I love my job, so that was a little weird) even after I ate food around 2:00 it didn’t get any better. I even had an extreme energy drain for the rest of the day.
The minute I walked through the door at home I went straight to the kitchen and made up the dinner. Which tasted really good, by the way. I sauté the chicken and green beans together and they were delicious. I waited a little while, hoping the ice cream and fruit could stand in as a meal later on that night. I only lasted about 30 minutes before my stomach was hollering at me to eat something else. I cut up the apples and bananas really small and added the ice cream, it turned out really well. The rest of the night was really rough, the headache never went away, and I was totally exhausted.
Day 2
1 egg and toast.
1/2 banana
2 hard-boiled eggs with 2 C. Cottage Cheese and 15 Crackers
4 hot dogs, 1/2 C. Broccoli, 1/2 C. Carrots.
1 C. Vanilla Ice-Cream with 1 Banana.
My stomach was so sick this morning, it was yelling at me to be fed, but also it didn’t want to put anything inside because then it would be sick. Finally, when the icky feeling left, I was able to eat breakfast. . . 20 minutes later it felt like I hadn’t eaten anything. I caved and called Ki-Ki. I ranted and raved at her to tell me what to do, I wanted to quit, but I also wanted to finish. Eventually we decided on a compromise, to take the food in the diet, and add a little extra of that food (IE 2 eggs instead of 1, 1 banana instead of 1/2 etc.) into the meals. So when I got ready for work I took 2 servings of the lunch meal, planning on eating one an hour after I arrived, and the other a few hours later. It actually worked fairly well. I took my hard-boiled egg and cut it up and mixed it in the cottage cheese (I really hate the taste cottage cheese, the only thing I like it in is lasagna) and then scooped it only my crackers. It worked, when I started getting kinda shaky I went in and had my second lunch. The problem came when my body decided it did not like the combination for the day . . . I spent a lot of time in the bathroom. Being lactose intolerant isn’t a very good thing when you have 2 cups of cheese. . . this problem even continued into dinner, which was fantastic! Hot dogs, broccoli and carrots, very appealing after the cheese. I did have to have a second batch of hot dogs later that night though, my headache had returned. The ice cream and bananas was a soothing thing to have afterwards.
Day 3.
Apple-Cider Vinegar Tea
10 Crackers and Cheese with 2 Apples
2 boiled Eggs with 2 Toasts
1 C. Vanilla Ice-Cream with Banana.
I woke up easily. I decided this morning to have my apple cider vinegar tea (I hadn’t thought about it till I saw it sitting next to the sink) which helped to dull my hunger. I then was able to last till 10:30, which was when I had my breakfast. I love crackers, they are just delicious! I took an extra serving of crackers and cheese, and an extra lunch serving with me this time, yesterday didn’t seem to be quite enough. I did eat the breakfast serving at about 1:30, and then I had the lunch later on. I was very happy with this day, I ended up not needing the second lunch at work, I guess maybe my body had finally gotten used to it.
The problem of the day came when it was time for dinner, the facts that it was so little food was one thing, I could have doubled that; it was a cup of tuna! I don’t like tuna, so I had already changed it to chicken. I stared at it for so long, my body was hungry, my headache was returning (it had been to long since lunch) and all I could do was look at it. I took a bite, and gagged. I was told I couldn’t use seasonings, everything else was fine, I just couldn’t eat it. I remembered the extra hard-boiled egg that I didn’t get a chance to eat at work, and I dived for it. I had that for dinner and my body was very happy at me.
This whole day had been a good one. Everything I ate made me feel better, I had energy, I accomplished things at work, and I didn’t get a headache till I was at home. There was such a difference from the first day, it was remarkable. I didn’t shake at all!
I started this out at 288 and ended it at 281, that is super happy for me. I had a really hard time with the lack of food, and I don’t know if I would want others to go through the same thing, and yet, I did get results. Now is the time to see if they will stick. You’re supposed to stay eating healthy for 4 more days, I hope the weight can stay off.
