Sticking with the meal replacement program OPTAVIA. Here’s the update of week 2!
This week went quite a bit different from the first week. I went on a trip to visit some friends in another state and I knew I wasn’t going to be able to do this program 100% like I did the first week. This is usually when the doubt sets in when it comes to diets and I think “I’m not going to give up having fun with my friends just for some hope of losing weight! I’ll just go right back on the diet after I get back.” And then the spiral starts, eventually leaving me exactly where I started before going on the diet–eating out everyday because that is what’s easiest.
Here’s where things are different with this–and with me this time around.
It’s A Life-Style, Not A Life-Sentence
I knew that I didn’t want to fall back into the same eating habits. Not only was eating out everyday part of my life, but only eating once a day was as well. So when I went to Utah to visit my friends, I decided that I would eat all the Fuelings throughout the day and then for what should be my “Lean and Green meal”, I would eat out with friends and choose the best option available.
This decision did two things for me. The first is that it ensured I was eating throughout the day, keeping my blood sugar steady and strong, making sure I wasn’t feeling weak or shaky at all. The second is that it gave me the freedom to stick to the program without feeling like it had to be all or nothing as it is with most of the diets I’ve tried in the past.
Here’s the results of the second week (plus a few days):
2 Week Results
Starting weight from end of week 1: 258.8
End of week 2 results: 257
This may not seem like the greatest result for about ten days on a weight loss program, but considering everything that happened this week, I am beyond thrilled!
Here’s what the weight loss looks like broken down day by day.

Can you guess which days I went to visit my friends? (Hint: all the blues).
Even though the weight loss since the end of week 1 is only 1.8lbs, I wanted to focus on the overall weight loss, and I am down 14lbs. That is insane to me! The fact that I could go and eat fries, cake, and drink Dr. Pepper (my vice), while also roughly staying the same weight and then could jump back in fully when I returned home and lost weight immediately? That alone is a huge motivation for me to stick with this program.
I still stepped on the scale everyday, and instead of getting discouraged if the number didn’t go down, I celebrated because I didn’t gain all the weight back.
A Positive Mindset Feeds Dedication
OPTAVIA doesn’t feel like I diet at all. It feels like an answer to my life-long issues I’ve had with eating. With viewing this program as a way of life instead of a diet that is needed to be followed without failure, it let’s me keep going without the guilt and the destructive thoughts that tell me to just give up since I didn’t stick to it 100% on any given day.
Granted, it would have been nice to see my weight go down even more, but I’m still down, and that’s what matters.

A Realistic Week In A Normal Life
This week we tried to incorporate going to the gym as well as following this program. We went twice, which to some might seem like a failure, but for us was a huge achievement. I like to think that the reasons my biceps are bigger is because of muscle building in them lol.
There will be weeks like the first week where I will be able to be 100% in my goals, and there will be weeks like this where I can give about 75% at my best. That’s the way life is and that is realistic and, more important, achievable.
It’s good to have goals and to strive to be better. It’s also powerful to know that effort and progress varies day by day.
Last week I said that this program is absolutely perfect for me right now, and I still feel that way. I’m excited to keep updating you on this journey.
